Jerry in Commack called in to support Zach Wilson, even calling him a “great quarterback,” and Gio could only end the call and let out a chuckle.
He simply has no fight left in him anymore when it comes to Wilson defenders.
“I don’t have it in me anymore. I don’t,” Gio said. “I really don’t. I told you, it’s like politics now. You’re screaming at somebody who doesn’t understand.
How could you not understand? Because you don’t want to. You don’t want to see it.
You just want to be stuck in whatever bizarro world you’re in.”
So, while he spent much of the season yelling at callers who believed Wilson wasn’t given a fair shot or was getting an unfair amount of criticism, Gio can now only laugh, for the sake of his own sanity.
“This guy just said Zach Wilson is a great quarterback,” Gio said. “At least we’re laughing now, right? A couple weeks ago, I’d be screaming. Now I’m laughing.”
