The Jets are reportedly interviewing Nathaniel Hackett for their offensive coordinator position, and it’s safe to say Gio doesn’t approve of the recently fired Broncos head coach taking over for Mike LaFleur.
“They go out and get the dumbest man in football and interview him for their offensive coordinator job in Nathaniel Hackett,” Gio said.
Boomer quickly pushed back on Gio’s declaration, who then took the chance to also vent about his Vikings fandom while still ripping Hackett.
“OK, maybe the second dumbest man in football behind Ed Donatell,” Gio said.
Boomer was much more receptive to the idea, noting that plenty of football minds weren’t able to find success as head coaches, but in smaller and more focused roles, they were able to thrive, which Hackett may be able to do as a coordinator.
“Some guys are not cut out to be head coaches,” Boomer said. “We see that time and time again…unfortunately for Nathaniel Hackett, who does have a very good resume as an offensive coach and a play caller…He was also handed a very difficult situation with a quarterback that signed a massive extension, who he never met before.”
Gio wasn’t buying it, and definitely isn’t buying the idea that bringing in Hackett would in any way help the Jets’ chances of adding Aaron Rodgers as their much-needed veteran quarterback.
“Already we’re hearing it again: ‘if Nathaniel Hackett gets hired…then that means they’re going after Aaron Rodgers.’ That’s what the Broncos thought too, but he wound up going back to the Packers and they ended up with a washed-up Russell Wilson on an awful contract,” Gio said. “I wouldn’t be sure that Aaron Rodgers is going to go running to the New York Jets to finish his career because donkey Nathaniel Hackett decided to move in.”
