Gio says Aaron Rodgers has officially arrived: 'It's finally happening…and it's just the beginning'
Aaron Rodgers turned in his best performance in years on Thursday night, completing 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a resounding blowout win for the Jets.
Rodgers looked noticeably more mobile than in his first two games of the season, and showed off his arm with dimes like his touchdown on the run to Garrett Wilson at the pylon. It was a thing of beauty for Gio, who had been waiting for this level of quarterback play in New York for years.
“Last night was everything that Aaron Rodgers as a Jet was supposed to be. And it's just the beginning,” Gio said. “He looked unbelievable. This was a straight up, vintage, Hall-of-Fame type performance. He was moving around, getting out of the pocket, making plays on the run, still protecting himself. He was also getting rid of the ball and protecting himself.
“You were just sitting there, at least I was sitting there, with a smile on my face saying, ‘This guy, he's here. He's finally a Jet.’”
Questions lingered throughout the offseason about what level of Rodgers the Jets would get at 40 years old, but he has only gotten better each week, culminating in Thursday’s masterpiece that has Gio dreaming big.
“It's finally happening. It doesn't feel like real life, but it is,” Gio said.
“To have a guy back there that you have faith in, it’s just so different than what we’ve been used to watching.”
