Quinnen Williams still doesn’t have a new contract with the Jets, though general manager Joe Douglas told reporters last month that he was “optimistic” a new agreement would get done.
Gio, after Williams scrubbed the Jets name from his Twitter bio, isn’t sharing that positivity at the moment, and believes a holdout might be coming, one that could run into the season.
“Sounds like a holdout to me,” Gio said. “Sounds like he’s prepping himself for a holdout.”
Williams could play on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, but after Dexter Lawrence and Daron Payne signed big contracts, Gang Green’s star defensive tackle wants a raise of his own, and Gio says the Jets will have to pay up if Williams is going to be on the field in Week 1.
“They don’t technically have to pay him,” Gio said. “But they’ll have to pay him.”
Boomer believes Gio’s concern is much ado about nothing, and that a new contract will get signed before holding out during the season becomes a concern.
“He’ll get his contract,” Boomer said. “Dexter Lawrence got his contract, he’ll get his contract. He’ll get his contract, I’m telling you.”
