As Zach Wilson gets set to return as the Jets starting quarterback, Gio wonders if the failed No. 2 overall pick has somehow become his most likable or sympathetic self since before he ever took a snap with Gang Green.
“Is this right now the most well-liked Zach Wilson has been since we didn’t see him play?” Gio said, noting the support from a lot of fans after reports emerged of Wilson being reluctant to take back the starting role.
“I think, after this report got out and everyone came to his defense, he’s sort of been looked at more like a sympathetic figure because the Jets have screwed him up so bad.”
After the initial backlash to the reports, coupled with Aaron Rodgers’ strong support of Wilson, Gio wonders if Wilson has indeed come full circle as he prepares to play what will likely be his last games with the Jets.
“I feel right now - after that initial ‘Oh, you don’t want to play? - that kind of got blown out of proportion, and Robert Saleh said he wants the ball,” Gio said. “I feel like right now, he has become a sympathetic figure more so than the guy that everybody, including me, has been hammering for three years.”
