Gio would love to see Brian Daboll coach Zach Wilson

Gio has wanted to see more public criticism, or even realism, from Robert Saleh and the Jets when it comes to the performance of Zach Wilson, which has been disappointing since being drafted second overall in 2021.

It leads Gio to wonder, or wish, that Wilson was coached by the other head coach in New York.

“This is something we’ve been talking about since his rookie season when they brought in his college quarterback coach to stand on the sidelines,” Gio said. “There really has never been any sort of public criticism from Robert Saleh and the coaching staff.

“I would love to see Brian Daboll coach Zach Wilson. It would be amazing. He’d be chewing his ass out in every single timeout.”

Daboll has made headlines this season for throwing a tablet in disgust while going over a red zone interception that Daniel Jones threw, and yelling at Tyrod Taylor after letting the clock run out at halftime without giving the Giants a chance to put points on the board in Buffalo. Gio would like to see Wilson get the same treatment, but with Saleh, he’s not holding his breath.

“When he was doing all that stuff [on Hard Knocks], it was like ‘OK, sure, whatever you say Rob. See you at lunch pal,’” Gio said. “He was really bad at those motivational speeches.

“He’s just not that guy. He’s not Bill Parcells, Sean Payton, or Brian Daboll…which is fine.”
