It’s no secret that the Jets need wide receiver help, especially after painfully missing out on Tyreek Hill. That wideout upgrade could come by way of a different blockbuster trade, perhaps for Deebo Samuel, or through the draft.
If Gang Green goes the latter route, it could make a play for Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams.
Despite tearing his ACL in the national championship game back in January, Williams still has a chance to be taken in the top 10 on Thursday, which speaks to his incredible speed and talent. The Jets could take Williams as high as fourth, or hope he is still available at No. 10, if they decide he is worth the risk despite his recent injury.
Williams and New York are linked given the Jets needs on offense and their spots in the upcoming draft, and despite having never been to New York or New Jersey, Williams thinks the Jets would be a good fit.
“I think it would be good playing in New York,” Williams said. “Coming from a place like St. Louis and never seeing a place like New York, I think it would be good for me.
“My speed, I feel like it would help the team. We could turn the program around. I’m just looking forward to changing the program…if that’s needed.”
Williams spoke with the Jets already, and recently posted workout videos as he continues his recovery. He still has a shot to go in the top 10, as he is still the best wide receiver in the draft, and New York needs weapons alongside Zach Wilson. Williams, who models his game after the legendary Randy Moss, could be just what the Jets need.
“I had great conversations with them,” Williams said. “They told me how they would use me, how the offense would work, and how it would go well with the guys they’ve got now. That made me feel comfortable.”
