Jets bring back speedy wideout Jeff Smith

The Jets have reportedly tendered a contract to wide receiver Jeff Smith, bringing back the speedy wideout for another season.

Smith, out of Boston College, was the team’s fastest player last season with a max speed of 21.93 mph.

As an exclusive rights free agent, Smith was only able to negotiate a deal with New York, where he will fight to crack the roster and slot in as a depth receiver. Injuries limited the 23-year-old to just one game in 2019, but he made four starts last season and appeared in 12 games, logging 167 receiving yards on 37 targets.

Nearly half of his receiving totals came in his first game of the season in Week 4 against Denver, when he picked up 81 receiving yards in his first game back from the IR. He was used sparingly down the stretch, logging just 12 offensive snaps over the last three games, all of them coming in the season finale against the Patriots.
