Jets GM Joe Douglas has grabbed one of his former players from down I-95, claiming guard Nate Herbig off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

Herbig, 23, was an undrafted free agent signed by the Birds out of Stanford in 2019, just months before then-Eagles vice president of player personnel Douglas became Jets GM. The Hawaiian native played in 33 games for Philly, starting 17, while playing both guard spots and some snaps at center.
Per Pro Football Focus, Herbig played 481 snaps last year and earned an overall grade of 68.1, allowing just one sack and taking only three penalties.
Herbig signed a $2.4 million restricted free agent tender with Philadelphia just last week, but the Eagles were rumored to be shopping him, and chose to waive him after adding to their interior line depth by drafting Nebraska center Cam Jurgens in the second round.
Bringing Herbig to New York adds further depth to an interior Jets line that added Pro Bowler Laken Tomlinson in free agency, pairing him with 2021 first-rounder Alijah Vera-Tucker at guard around center Connor McGovern.
