The Jets have received some brutal injury news in the past week with Carl Lawson suffering a season-ending Achilles injury and Jarrad Davis being lost until likely the bye week, but some much-needed good news arrived on Tuesday.
First-round pick Alijah Vera-Tucker returned to practice, as did second-round wide receiver Elijah Moore. Both had missed the first two preseason games, with Vera-Tucker nursing a pectoral injury and Moore dealing with a quad injury.
“It was kind of like Christmas,” Robert Saleh said. “We had a few guys back. We had Elijah Moore back, Alijah Vera-Tucker came back, Quinnen [Williams] got more reps, so it was good to get those guys back in the fold…we’re getting some healthy guys back.”
Moore, who said he started to feel more like himself over the weekend, made his return known quickly thanks to a deep connection with Zach Wilson in a scrimmage with the Eagles, something Jets fans would love to see in a game setting. But both Moore and Vera-Tucker have to work their way back into the lineup after absences that concerned Saleh in terms of their development, but Moore is hoping to take the field on Friday against Philadelphia in New York’s preseason finale.
“I’m day by day,” Moore said. “We’re gonna see how I feel, but that is the plan.”
It wasn’t all good news for Gang Green, as offensive lineman Mekhi Bekton left practice after throwing up on the field with what the team believes is related to a head injury. Bekton had been involved in a head-to-head collision shortly before being removed from practice.
