The Jets have a big quarterback question to answer over the final games of the season and into the offseason, as it has become more and more clear that their hopeful franchise QB in Zach Wilson is not the answer.
So, what should Jets fans be hoping for? Jerry Recco says Gang Green’s faithful should be pulling hard for Mike White.
“If I’m a Jet fan, I’m praying Mike White plays well the next couple games, and they end up in the playoffs, and whether they win or not, he plays well so that I can go into 2023 believing Mike White is my quarterback,” Jerry said.
“He’s young, you’ve got a future with him as opposed to a retread veteran, here we go again, trying to catch lightning in a bottle for a year or two.”
White has easily been the Jets’ top performing quarterback since last season, though the bar is noticeably low in that regard. There have always been concerns of backups catching lightning in a bottle over the course of a season, then crashing back down to earth when given the consistent starting job, but there are also the anomalies of low draft picks, or undrafted quarterbacks, coming out of nowhere and making careers of it (see Tom Brady and Kurt Warner). So, White could certainly become one of those improbable cases, and Jerry says that should be the wish of Jets fans heading down the stretch of this season.
“I feel like Mike White has been here, he’s been in the system, and you feel like he’s yours,” Jerry said.
