Some Jets fans have little to no faith in Zach Wilson after two disappointing seasons to begin his NFL career, but Tiki says Wilson, in a way, is getting a fresh start after the Jets did him wrong to begin his career.
“Zach Wilson came to the wrong place,” Tiki said. “It was not the right spot, to not have much experience at BYU, to be thrust onto a stage without the right offensive coordinator and without a coherent system to develop him. Therefore, we got Aaron Rodgers, and Zach Wilson is an afterthought.
“Something happened after Aaron came. He got reset into a good system to develop himself. Zach Wilson is in a better spot. So yeah, you can say what he’s done has sucked, but I can’t say he sucks. I’m looking at him like a rookie. I’m looking at him as someone who just came into a system that is right for him, and he now needs to develop.”
Tiki notes that the only issue for Wilson is the fact that the rest of the roster is ready to win now, and can’t afford to wait for him to develop, and hopefully thrive, in Nathaniel Hackett’s system. Still, Tiki believes the Jets will get a much different and improved Zach Wilson in year three, though it should be more like a year one for the young quarterback.
“You gotta forget those first two years,” Tiki said. “I know you can’t, but you have to.”
