Deebo Samuel told reporters on Wednesday that he has asked for a trade from the 49ers, meaning another superstar wide receiver could potentially wind up on the trading block.

And whenever a star wideout is rumored to be available, the Jets are one of the first potential landing spots brought up in response.

So, it was no surprise that Gang Green general manager Joe Douglas was asked about Samuel when he spoke to reporters at New York’s voluntary offseason workouts on Thursday.

“Really no specifics,” Douglas said. “Can’t get into specifics when it comes to a player that is not on our roster. I’ll just say that since coming here, I’ve made it known that my job is to make the team better, and we’re gonna do that via any avenue we can.”

Samuel would give the Jets offense the superstar talent they covet to line up alongside Zach Wilson, and while they missed out on Tyreek Hill, their trade offer showed that they are serious about making a big splash if the opportunity presents itself.

Douglas wouldn’t comment on Samuel specifically, but reiterated that the team will pounce on any chance to get better. So if Samuel becomes available, expect New York to be heavily involved.

“If right the opportunity presents itself, we’re gonna be aggressive,” Douglas said.

“Not gonna get into any specifics or hypotheticals, but if the right opportunity presents itself to make this roster better, we’re gonna attack it and be aggressive.”
