Jets had deal in place for Tyreek Hill that didn't include first-round draft picks: Report

The Jets were dealt a painful blow on Wednesday, watching superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill traded to the rival Dolphins after New York was in “serious talks” to acquire the six-time Pro Bowler themselves.

What’s worse, Gang Green reportedly had a deal in place that just needed Hill’s approval, and the trade would not have sacrificed much of the Jets’ future, as the team’s fourth and 10th overall picks in the upcoming draft weren’t part of the return package.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal that New York and Kansas City had in place would have had the Jets sending their two second-round picks from this year’s draft and their third-round pick, while the Chiefs would have sent back Hill and their third-round pick (103rd overall). In the end, Hill was dealt to the Dolphins for their first, second, and fourth-round picks from the upcoming draft, as well as fourth and sixth-round picks from next year’s draft, then signed Hill to a four-year contract extension that included $72.2 million in guaranteed money.

Simply put, the Jets had an agreed-upon deal for Hill, but the superstar eventually chose Miami as where he would prefer to sign an extension. But it could add to the pain for Jets fans knowing that they could have had Hill while retaining their most coveted picks for this year, despite New York being reportedly willing to part with those picks for Hill.
