Mekhi Becton is the Jets starting right tackle for Week 1, and Gang Green’s brass is excited to see a resurgent Becton in 2023.

Joe Douglas told reporters on Thursday that Becton looks as good as he has since his promising debut season with the Jets, after he was selected as the 11th overall pick in 2020.

“Mekhi has had a great training camp,” Douglas said. “It’s been really awesome to see Mekhi go through this August.

“Watching him bounce around, and the energy he had prior to the Tampa Bay game, I knew he was gonna have a great game. It was good to see him go out and do what he does, and look like rookie Mekhi again. Everyone here who was here for rookie Mekhi knows what he can do.”

Becton removed himself from the Hall of Fame Game to begin the Jets’ preseason journey, but has since built back up confidence in his surgically repaired knee, and put together a strong preseason to help bring stability to an offensive line that has been seen as the team’s greatest concern heading into the franchise’s most hyped season in years.

But with Becton healthy and Breece Hall returning in the backfield, Douglas says the Jets are in great shape heading into Week 1.

“I think we’re getting healthy at the right time,” Douglas said. “I feel good about where we are.”
