How much pain was Mike White playing through during the Jets’ loss to the Seahawks on Sunday?
Well, he told reporters on Friday that he has five broken ribs, though one is from an old injury that he never knew about.
So, White broke four ribs since playing through two heavy hits against the Bills. Then, after resting for two weeks, came back to try and save Gang Green’s season against Seattle, but never looked like himself, especially in the second half after taking another heavy hit.
“Just wasn’t feeling right,” head coach Robert Saleh said. “His ribs, the end of half Hail Mary, the sack he took, really bothered him, even going into the second half, which clearly impacted his ability to throw the ball in the second half…he’s just in a lot of pain.”
White was listed as a full participant in practice on Wednesday, but it was just a walkthrough. Once he had to do more physically, he felt the pain and discomfort of five broken ribs, and handed the keys to the Jets offense to Joe Flacco, who will start in this weekend’s season finale.
White told reporters that the broken ribs will not require surgery, just rest, which will be his focus now that his season is over.
