The New York Jets appear to be the latest team to be dealt a COVID blow.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a presumptive positive was produced by a Jets player on Friday, which led to all players and coaches to be sent home from the facility.
The player who tested positive is being re-tested and the results of the second test should be known later in the day, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, offensive players are also being tested as they were in close contact with the presumptive positive.
Should the second test come back positive or another player tests positive, it is possible the Jets’ game against the Cardinals on Sunday is postponed. The Cardinals are scheduled to leave for New York at some point on Friday.
The NFL has already pushed back two games this weekend due to positive COVID-19 tests. The New England Patriots’ game against the Denver Broncos has moved from Sunday to Monday while the Tennessee Titans game against the Buffalo Bills has been moved from Sunday to Tuesday.
The Titans, Patriots and Raiders have all produced at least one positive test this week, while Tennessee has had a full-blown outbreak with 23 positives over the last two weeks – which resulted in last week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers to be rescheduled.
The NFL has sent out multiple memos to teams warning of coronavirus protocol breaches and threatening harsh penalties, such as loss of draft picks or forfeiture of games if it is found teams are not following guidelines.
