The Jets have not made any of their 27 roster moves prior to Tuesday’s NFL cutdown deadline official just yet, but reports have surfaced of six names who are on the chopping block.
According to various sources, the Jets will part ways with RB La’Mical Perine (per NY Post and WFAN insider Brian Costello), WR Calvin Jackson Jr. and Irvin Charles, DE Bradlee Anae, LB Del’Shawn Phillips, and DB Javelin Guidry.
There are also rumors the Cowboys are interested in trading for offensive lineman Chuma Edoga.
Perine was a fourth-round pick in 2020, Joe Douglas’ first draft as Jets GM, but he played just four games last season, with eight carries for 31 yards, and totaled 72 carries for 263 yards in 14 total games.
Jackson Jr. and Charles both signed as rookie free agents this summer, the former out of Washington and the latter out of Indiana (Pa.) University. Jackson Jr. had four catches for 19 yards this preseason – including the game-winning touchdowns in the Jets’ wins over the Eagles and Giants. Charles had four catches for 27 yards in two preseason games.
Anae spent two seasons with the Cowboys before signing a reserve deal with the Jets in January, and he could rejoin the team on the practice squad after a strong preseason.
Phillips spent last season with the Jets, coming up from the practice squad in September, and had 31 tackles and one sack. He had 20 tackles this preseason, and could also be a practice squad candidate.
Guidry, an undrafted free agent out of Utah in 2020, played in all 17 games for the Jets last year and made three starts, notching 48 tackles and three passes defensed.
