Brandon Tierney won’t go as far to say that Week 2 against the Browns is a must-win game for the rebuilding Jets, but after Robert Saleh’s “keeping receipts” declaration following a lopsided Week 1 loss, he believes the team’s performance against Cleveland has spiked in importance.
“This is an incredibly pivotal point in Robert Saleh’s tenure,” BT said. “There’s no other way to skin this. Win or lose, it better be a four quarter game.
“It seems almost irresponsible or reckless to push it this direction this early, but we’re not the ones doing the pushing. That came from the head coach. He’s the one who established the tone this entire week.”
The response to Saleh’s receipts comments was strong, and he responded to the response by adding a declaration that these aren’t the Jets of old, though he knows it has to eventually be proven on the field. BT says, given those comments, that proof needs to start on Sunday.
“We’re at our wits end, man,” BT said. “If Jets fans lead the world in something, outside of enduring maddening, gut-punching losses over the years, it’s that we are resilient. But even we have our limits.
“It doesn’t represent a must win. It’s a must-play-well type of game. We don’t want excuses, we don’t want a jacked-up press conference…we want to watch a team that looks crisp, looks well-coached, looks like it’s heading in the right direction.”
