Zach Wilson struggled badly in Sunday’s deflating loss to the Patriots, making a select few mind-numbing decisions that led to interceptions on clear throwaway situations.
Wilson hasn’t shown the growth many hoped to see in his second NFL season, but the Jets are going to let their hopeful franchise cornerstone work through the kinks the rest of the way, as Robert Saleh told reporters on Monday that Wilson is the team’s starting quarterback moving forward.
“He's our quarterback because we think he's gonna get better and he's gonna continue to prove why he's the No. 2 pick,” Saleh said.
“Do I expect it all to be clean? No, every quarterback has their days…I’ve got full confidence in Zach. We all do.”
Wilson is near the bottom of qualified passers in QBR since making his NFL debut, but Saleh still sees his young quarterback showing signs of improvement, and has his unconditioned confidence the rest of the season.
“I think Zach is gonna continue to get better,” Saleh said. “I think he is better than he was a year ago…we all can look in the mirror and look at the decisions we all made [Sunday]. We’ve all got to get better. zach is the quarterback, he has the ball in his hands, he’s the most obvious in terms of being critical of. But he’s gotten a lot better, and I expect it to keep getting better.”
