Jets standout rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner has been named the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week for his Week 7 performance against the Broncos.
Gardner logged 10 tackles, three PDs, and had a crucial pass breakup on a pass by Brett Rypien intended for Courtland Sutton in the end zone with two minutes left in the game.
The clutch play resulted in a turnover on downs, all but sealing another win for Gang Green.
Gardner leads the league with 12 PDs on the season, and has at least one in each of his first seven games, the only rookie to do that in over two decades.
The rookie is the second straight Jet to earn the honor, as defensive lineman Quinnen Williams took home the award in Week 6.
