Sauce Gardner was on the sticks playing Madden on NFL Tuesday Night Gaming, and fans quickly caught on to the fact that the Jets cornerback was using Mike White, not Zach Wilson, as his starting quarterback.

Gardner, playing against MMG, was asked about the decision multiple times by MMG, but Gardner wouldn’t take the bait.

The difference in clubhouse approval between White and Wilson was reportedly drastic this season, as the team was publicly overt in its support of White, wearing matching Mike White t-shirts while he was the starter, and some teammates reportedly didn’t hold back their frustration when Wilson returned as the starter after White suffered a ribs injury.

Gardner even liked a tweet that was critical of Wilson earlier in the season after Wilson simply said, “No” when asked if he felt he and the offense let the defense down in a loss to the Patriots. Gardner unliked the tweet and declared it an accident, but it was still notable, and Wilson was benched shortly after.

Gardner then extinguished the intrigue on Thursday morning, tweeting that White was already the starter in the game of Madden that he played, and he had not subbed out Wilson. So, the potential Defensive Rookie of the Year was simply playing with the roster as the game had constructed it.

Still, it didn’t stop fans from speculating.
