Jets sign veteran quarterback Josh Johnson

The Jets have added some veteran experience to their quarterback core with the signing of journeyman Josh Johnson, the team announced Wednesday morning.

Johnson worked out with the team last week, before Zach Wilson made his arrival following negotiations with his rookie contract. But New York didn’t have a signal caller with a single snap of NFL experience before adding the 35-year-old, leading to the decision to work out Johnson and Sean Hannion.

Johnson, a fifth-round pick back in 2008, has played a total of six seasons in the NFL, but none since 2018, when he made three starts with the Washington Football Team. Prior to that, his last season was back in 2013, when he appeared in two games for the Bengals. He has a career completion percentage of 55.2 percent, and a record of 1-7-0.

New York waived linebacker Brendon White in a corresponding move.
