Jets take Armand Membou with seventh pick to further bolster offensive line

For the second straight year, the Jets are beefing up their offensive line with their top draft pick.

Gang Green selected Missouri tackle Armand Membou with the seventh overall pick on Thursday night, bolstering the protection in front of new quarterback Justin Fields.

One year ago, the Jets, albeit a different regime, selected Penn State tackle Olu Fashanu with the 11th overall pick.

Membou represents the first-ever draft pick by new general manager Darren Mougey, and first-year head coach Aaron Glenn now hopes to have the tackle position solidified on both sides for the long-term future.

Offensive line had been an issue for the Jets in recent years, as high draft picks like Mekhi Becton did not materialize. But Fashanu showed plenty of promise in his rookie season, and the Jets will hope for more of the same from Membou.

Membou and Fashanu will represent the tackles on an offensive line that includes Joe Tippmann at center and former first-round pick Alijah Vera-Tucker as well as John Simpson at right and left guard, respectively.
