Chris Herndon never could live up to the expectations he set in his rookie season with the Jets, and his tenure with Gang Green came to an end on Tuesday.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the once promising tight end was traded to the Vikings for draft compensation, as New York continues to shape its 53-man roster for the upcoming season. Herndon entered the offseason looking like a strong candidate to be a starter in 2021, but was never able to separate himself or get back to what he flashed as a rookie.

Herndon was drafted out of Miami in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and racked up 502 receiving yards on 39 receptions, scoring four touchdowns in a promising debut season. But injuries and a suspension limited him to just one game in 2019, and struggled with drops in 2020, dropping four passes and recording two fumbles.
