Mekhi Becton injures surgically repaired knee on second play of practice

UPDATE: Head coach Robert Saleh says Becton will undergo an MRI, but the knee is "stable" and the injury is not believed to be serious.

Jets training camp is not off to a good week.

According to reporters, Mekhi Becton suffered an injury to his surgically repaired knee on the second play of practice on Monday, and was “limping badly” into the locker room. Becton’s knee injury in Week 1 of last season kept him out of the rest of the year for the Jets, and he was just recently taken off the PUP list.

Becton had recently begun wearing a knee brace after Robert Saleh described the lineman as dealing with "discomfort."

Gang Green had high hopes for Becton, a former 11th overall pick who had cut weight before arriving at training camp. He was named as the starting right tackle with George Fant keeping right tackle duties, but if Becton’s apparent reaggravated knee injury results in more extended time off the field, New York will have to make a major adjustment before preseason even begins.
