The Jets are reportedly interested in bringing back Joe Flacco as their backup quarterback.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Gang Green is “in talks” with the 37-year-old and former Super Bowl champ, and there is “mutual interest” in a reunion. Flacco was acquired by New York from the Eagles for a conditional sixth-round pick last year, and the veteran made two appearances with one start, when Wilson was nursing a knee injury.
In those two games, Flacco completed 27 of 42 passes for 338 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also made five appearances for the Jets in 2020, his first stint with the team.
Per Cimini, head coach Robert Saleh wants to keep last year’s quarterback core in place, with Zach Wilson as the starter, Flacco the veteran backup and Mike White as the third string quarterback. White, who the Jets would have to tender as a restricted free agent, was a brief sensation for New York while Wilson was sidelined, but quickly came back down to earth in what was his first NFL season.
