Zach Wilson is coming off a disastrous performance against the Patriots, where clear throwaway opportunities turned into interceptions in a deflating loss.
Since coming into the league, he ranks near the bottom in QBR, and hasn’t shown the kind of growth many hoped for in year two as a former No. 2 overall pick.
With that in mind, Tiki Barber is ready to ask the question: is Wilson a bust?
“At what point do you start to have the conversation that maybe this kid is not gonna figure it out? Maybe he is gonna be a bust,” Tiki said during Thursday’s Tiki and Tierney show.
“The reason you bring this up now is because we saw it after year one with Tua [Tagovailoa]…and you saw it after year two because there wasn’t a demonstrative improvement. Tua was under pressure year two to prove it. People were saying he could be a bust. He’s come out of that almost completely, but Zach Wilson is in that same spot Tua was in last year, where legitimately you have to start saying, ‘Is this guy the dude?’”
The Jets continue to express their full confidence in Wilson, but Tiki says the fanbase should likely start preparing themselves for the idea that their latest hopeful franchise savior might not be the answer.
“I think you have to start having those conversations in your mind if you’re a Jet fan,” Tiki said. “I don’t think the Jets are saying it, but as a fan, you may need to start peeling back those lofty expectations.”
