Joe & Evan agree: The Jets won't get much for Le'Veon Bell, but they must take what they can get

We’ve come up with a name for the guttural sound Joe Benigno makes when discussing, or hearing about, topics that disgust him: the Bro-an.

The Bro-an was on full display during Tuesday’s Benigno & Roberts Show on WFAN, as Evan Roberts talked about the latest developments in the Adam Gase/Le’Veon Bell saga that has to be heading towards a Jets divorce from their “star” running back.

“Now we’ve got Adam Gase and Le’Veon Bell, who haven’t liked each other since Bell signed because Gase didn’t want him…Bell has been a massive disappointment since the Jets have signed him,” Evan proclaimed as Joe Bro-aned in the background.

“It hasn’t worked out for a myriad of reasons; if you want to argue that Le’Veon Bell isn’t the same guy he was in Pittsburgh, that’s fair, because he lacks that explosiveness,” Evan said, to which Joe replied: “he also lacks the Pittsburgh offensive line and team in general.”

There’s also one other reason, says Evan.

“There’s a track record of this: Adam Gase tends to not get the most out of his players; we’ve seen that over the years, especially when those guys end up elsewhere,” Evan said. “The signing of Le’Veon Bell has been a clear failure, and we’ve gotten to this for many reasons – but Adam Gase is a big reason, because they don’t like each other.”

Evan then explained Bell’s recent social media antics of late, and how it’s now come to such a head that the team is actively trying to trade Bell.

“Well, look…at this point, even if you get a late-round pick for him…you’re not going to get much, and you’re probably going to have to kick money in too,” Joe said. “But Brian Costello talked about how they’re not playing La’Mical Perine because of this – I’d rather see the kid play, let’s see what he is!”

Evan then noted how the same could go for Frank Gore, with Joe retorting that Gore is one of few “buddies” Gase may have – and that drove Evan to the final rant.

“When you don’t have a lot of buddies, you have to hold on to them,” Evan said, “and I don’t think they’ll get much for Le’Veon Bell, for three reasons: the money he makes, the way he’s played, and look around this league: you can get production out of the running back position without paying a hefty price.”
