Daniel Jones and the Giants have yet to agree to a deal, amid reports that the quarterback is asking for big money in his new deal after a career year under Brian Daboll.
If Joe Benigno were running the Jets, he would be keeping a very close eye on how the Jones negotiations pan out, and would be ready to pounce.
“If Daniel Jones was not re-signed by the Giants, and they were stupid enough to let him go, as a Jet fan, I’m all over him,” Joe said. “He’d become by No. 1 choice for the Jets to sign.”
Joe had been high on Jones all season, even declaring that the former sixth overall pick deserved some MVP consideration despite throwing just 15 touchdowns. Joe believes Jones had the thinnest receiving core to work with last season, yet still helped Big Blue end its playoff drought. If he were to join a Jets team with Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall alongside him, Gang Green would take a big step forward.
“If we have Daniel Jones last year, we make the playoffs,” Joe said. “The guy now has found himself…we know he can play in New York. I’m telling you bro, if the Giants were stupid enough, and I don’t think that they are, but I would be all over Daniel Jones.”
As for Evan, a fellow Jets fan, he isn’t sold that Jones would do with Gang Green what he did with the Giants last season.
“I don’t know if this coaching staff that the Jets have would get as much out of Daniel Jones as this Giants coaching staff has,” Evan said.
