Jets-Commanders Saturday kicks off Gang Green’s preseason, and while Aaron Rodgers has been a full participant in camp since reporting, the fact that he got in just one series last year before tearing his Achilles has many wondering if he needs preseason reps or not.
What say you, Jets superfan Joe Benigno?
“I'm kind of mixed whether Rodgers should play in the preseason or not, but it would be so Jet-like, let's be honest about it, if he played in the preseason and got hurt again,” Joe said. “I mean, this is the Jets, and what happened last year…there’s only one franchise in sports that what happened last year with Rodgers could have happened to.”
“You couldn’t script it,” Jerry Recco replied.
Jerry called it “Vinny 2.0,” of course referencing how Vinny Testaverde led the Jets to the AFC title game in 1998, then missed all of 1999 after tearing his Achilles Week 1. The 2000 Jets went 9-7 and had the “Monday Night Miracle” against the Dolphins, but whatever Rodgers does, Joe doesn't see the similarity in feelings.
“A big difference with Vinny, because he had already played and given us something and all that,” Joe said.
“But expectation-wise, the guy that you thought that could lead you there at the quarterback position, first game of what was supposed to be a big season…different circumstances, but very similar,” Jerry replied.
How do you feel about Gang Green’s QB situation as Saturday approaches?
