Joe Benigno joined Evan and Tiki on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after his beloved Jets lost Aaron Rodgers for the season, but he was actually optimistic when talking about Gang Green moving forward.
“The dynamic has changed,” Joe said. “Now, this football team has to show that they are a good football team without Aaron Rodgers, and I think they started to show it last night.
“This is an elite defense…this team is good. I think this team can still win. Why not win the division? This kid walked into the building last night thinking ‘I’m not playing all year.’ Did [Zach Wilson] play great? No…but he did what he had to do to win.”
Wilson was supposed to take the next couple seasons to learn behind Rodgers, but instead, he only got four snaps to watch the future Hall of Famer work. Now, the question is whether or not Rodgers will stick around and tutor Wilson as he recovers from his Achilles tear, but Joe believes Rodgers will be there.
“Everything he’s done since he came to the Jets has been about the Jets…and winning with this football team,” Rodgers said. “I don’t see him abandoning that now. I don’t. I think he’s gonna stay around and help this kid.”
