Joe Benigno turns 70 years old on Tuesday, and he spent his Monday with Evan and Tiki lamenting another Jets loss, where Zach Wilson once again looked like a draft bust in the making.
“I’m like numb at this point, bro,” Joe said. “We’re three games into the season, and the season is over. Who are they beating? They’re gonna be 1-5 by the time they play [the Giants]. They’ll probably even lose to the Broncos.
“To lose to them again, for the 15th straight time, and they stink! The Patriots did everything they possibly could to give this game to the Jets! Even the officials were trying to give the game to the Jets, and they couldn’t win! It’s a disgrace!”
Joe confirmed that he texted with Saleh after the game, sending messages back and forth for nearly an hour, and warned the head coach that his devotion to Wilson would be his undoing.
“Coach, you’re the nicest guy in the world, but you’re 12 and freaking 25. Let’s start with that,” Joe said. “You’re gonna go down with this quarterback. He stinks. You’re not gonna get your year with Rodgers if you guys win four or five games this year. It’s a freaking joke.”
What pains Joe the most? The fact that he can’t dismiss the idea that the organization has already decided to kick the can down the road to next season, when Aaron Rodgers is ready to return.
“Knowing this inept organization, why would that surprise me?” Joe said. “It wouldn’t. It’s a joke. That’s probably their plan. We’ll live with Zach, let’s go 3-14, and maybe we’ll be worse than the Cardinals…maybe we can finish with the worst record and draft Caleb Williams! How about that? What a disgrace.”
