It will be Zach Wilson back behind center for the Jets on Sunday, marking the first time since Week 11 that the former No. 2 overall pick will be in pads for Gang Green.
Meanwhile, Mike White will be working his way back from a ribs injury that prevented him from being cleared for contact this weekend, and Joe Benigno is worried that even if White is cleared, he won’t be getting the starting job back this season.
“They’ve been looking for an excuse all along to play Wilson, even though White is clearly the better quarterback,” Joe said. “It’s not even debatable.
“The Jets organization, because he was the No. 2 pick in the draft, they gotta justify the No. 2 pick in the draft…my biggest fear is they’ll never go back to Mike White. I’m very concerned about that.”
If the Jets are able to do enough to take down the Lions on Sunday, and Joe believes they will be thanks to their defense, White may be doomed, and the Jets could settle on keeping Wilson as the starter the rest of the way, even as the stakes will only continue to climb as a potential playoff berth approaches.
“If Mike White is cleared to take a hit this Thursday against the Jaguars,” Joe said. “Is he playing?”
