Joe Benigno won't let himself get too excited about Jets: 'I'll believe it when I see it'

The Jets are getting set to begin a season with high expectations, but Joe Benigno is keeping his expectations low despite the load of talent Gang Green boasts on paper.

“I’ve been burned too many times. Fifty six years, I’ve been screwed by this franchise,” Joe said. “I gotta see it. I don’t trust this franchise at all.

“I was all pumped up [last year]. No more. You’ve hosed me too many times. I will believe it when I see it.”

There was certainly hype last season after Aaron Rodgers was acquired from the Packers, but it ended in disaster after Rodgers went down with a season-ending Achilles injury just four snaps into the season. Joe will believe that the Jets aren’t poised for similar disappointment once he actually sees success on the field.

“On paper they look great. Great. On paper, big deal,” Joe said. “Is everybody gonna stay healthy? Is Aaron Rodgers gonna stay healthy? Tyron Smith? Morgan Moses? Alijah Vera-Tucker?

“I will be ready Monday night when they play the Niners out in San Francisco. I’ll be ready to go. But I don’t trust them at all. I’ll believe it when I see it.”
