The Jets have little to no chance of making the playoffs this season, so Keith has begun looking to next year in what will be a critical campaign for the franchise, as it looks to run it back with a hopefully healthy Aaron Rodgers.
So, when draft day approaches, Keith says the focus needs to be on building around the future Hall of Famer, and finding his eventual replacement can wait.
“This whole offseason has to be geared up towards protecting Aaron Rodgers, putting weapons on offense and stacking the deck around Aaron Rodgers,” Keith said. “I don’t think they’re taking a quarterback with their first-round pick.
“It’s a deep enough draft where they could use a third-round pick to get a quarterback. There’s enough quarterbacks and receivers where, with your first-round pick, you get an offensive lineman that is a sure-fire guy…that you can plug in and start in the NFL. You get that guy to protect Aaron Rodgers. Then in the second round, you go get a weapon as far as a receiver. Then, maybe in the third round, you get a quarterback of the future, because somebody is gonna fall. Maybe a Sam Hartman or Spencer Rattler type, but somebody is gonna be available that’s better than Zach Wilson.”
