The Jets will have cameras rolling on the sidelines next week when they open up training camp, as they have unsurprisingly been selected to be featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks this year.
Keith McPherson understands why the Jets were hoping to not be selected, as it can only hurt their goals for the season.
“That’s not good. That’s not a good thing,” Keith said. “The Jets already have One Jets Drive, or Flight 23, their own behind-the-scenes where they can control the narrative. And this year is a huge year. You actually have Aaron Rodgers and a defense you think can be a championship-caliber defense.
“No team has ever gone to the Super Bowl after being on Hard Knocks. That’s almost like a Madden curse. It’s gonna be great to watch, don’t get me wrong…but you don’t want all the extra attention.”
The Jets have been the talk of the NFL since acquiring Aaron Rodgers to complement their exciting core of young talent, and they will be preparing for their most anticipated season in recent memory. Keith would have preferred, for Gang Green’s sake, to be out of the limelight as they prepare for a critical campaign.
“It’s almost like they want to build you up to see you fall,” Keith said. “Jets fans, temper your expectations. This will be cool to watch, but what do you really want, a cool three weeks in the preseason on HBO, or a team that can actually end the playoff drought and get to the Super Bowl?”
