Keith heard the criticism thrown Robert Saleh’s way after Sunday’s loss, where his Jets were penalized eight times for 86 yards.
Many are ready to declare that Saleh is not fit to be the head coach, and while Keith isn’t ready to make that declaration himself, the evidence doesn’t support Saleh’s case to stick around.
“I don’t know how long Robert Saleh is gonna have,” Keith said. “After the game, I’m hearing ‘Robert Saleh’s gotta go. Robert Saleh can’t be the head coach.’
“I don’t know exactly how they practice or how they prepare, but it’s clear they’re not prepared. It’s clear they’re not practicing well enough, because the execution is not there. So yeah, you can blame the head coach.”
Penalties have been a theme, and Saleh sticking with Zach Wilson despite a dormant offense has also been a source of criticism. When it comes to the former, Keith says that is a product of coaching, and how the team prepares for games that are pivotal to saving New York’s season. To not be prepared and mentally poised is not a good look for the coaching staff.
“There’s something detached with the Jets in the way they practice…and the way they execute in the game,” Keith said. “Because they can’t have this many penalties every single week. The reps in practice must not be clean enough. They must not be drilling it enough.”
