McMonigle: Aaron Glenn won press conference, but that doesn't mean much

Chris McMonigle says Aaron Glenn undoubtedly won his introductory press conference on Monday, but unfortunately, as we’ve seen in New York before, that doesn’t mean much in terms of future success on the field.

“Guess what? They won the press conference! Woohoo! Let’s go!” Chris said sarcastically, before giving some real kudos to the new Jets head coach.

“Aaron Glenn did win the press conference. When you hear him speak, he is a football coach. There is no doubt about it. He did a tremendous job, even in the media scrum after.”

Glenn told Jets fans to get used to winning, as he doesn’t intend on going back after experiencing success with the Lions, and his highlight comment of “We’re the freaking New York Jets, we’re built for this s—t,” fired up fans everywhere. But Chris warns that those are the exact type of comments that become a meme if things don’t work out, much like Robert Saleh and his “All gas, no brake” rally cry.

“That’s a line you’re either gonna look back on and laugh and say ‘Yeah, we’re the New York Jets, what exactly were we built for? Built for losing? We haven’t made the playoffs in how many years?’” Chris said.

C-Mac says Jets fans should be fired up after Glenn owner his presser, but there should be a sense of hesitation to already buy all the way in, as it is a story we’ve seen play out before and turn into more disaster.

“I’m not even trying to knock him, because I think he did a tremendous job, but these press conferences are so overrated,” Chris said. “I’m sorry Jet fans. All you can do is either be good at this or bad at this…it means absolutely nothing. We’ve seen it before. Joe Judge won his press conference on a level unlike anything the Giants had ever seen, and he was a disastrous head coach.

“I firmly believe he will be a better head coach than Joe Judge, but they both won their press conference.”
