McMonigle: Jets interviewing countless head coaching candidates except for two best options

The Jets list of head coaching candidates that they have interviewed or requested to interview could fill a CVS receipt, but Chris McMonigle says there are two glaring omissions from that long list of names.

In fact, for C-Mac, it’s hard to make the case that any of the names on the list are better than the two on his mind that the Jets have yet to approach.

“None of them inspire me,” C-Mac said. “Brian Flores, Aaron Glenn, none of these coaching candidates inspire me. None of them.”

So, who are those names that C-Mac would want to see hired by Gang Green? One is a Super Bowl champ that could return to the head coaching ranks, and another recently moved on from his last stop in Dallas.

“I want to hire an offensive mind if I can, but I want a stabilizing head coach, a proven winner, someone who is gonna come in here and get the team ready, has been in big games, knows clock management, doesn’t have to learn a damn thing,” C-Mac said. “For me, I would have hired Pete Carroll to be the head coach of the New York Jets. He’s won national championships and a Super Bowl. He ran a team in Seattle that was a consistent winner for a decade. I think Pete Carroll is a perfect fit. I can’t believe he hasn’t been interviewed at the very least.

“Mike McCarthy...he knows how to win football games. They haven’t gotten to the Promised Land...but I don’t know why Mike McCarthy wouldn’t be one of the guys interviewed immediately. I would hire Pete Carroll or Mike McCarthy and bring back Aaron Rodgers.”

Until that happens, C-Mac won’t feel very optimistic about the team’s future.

“They’ve interviewed 16 people to be their head coach,” C-Mac said. “And to me, the two best options are Pete Carroll and Mike McCarthy, and they haven’t talked to either of them.”
