Craig Carton doesn’t see how there would be any argument for the Jets picking up Mekhi Becton’s fifth-year option, and the oft-injured offensive lineman has no reason to have any conflict with the team’s decision to decline.

“They can’t pick up his fifth-year option,” Craig said. “It would be bad business.

“It’s not like he can be upset about it. He’s made $18 million guaranteed and hasn’t played. What are the Jets supposed to do, kiss his ass some more?”

Craig’s advice for Becton? If he gets the urge to voice some complaints about the team’s decision, focus on getting healthy and being available instead.

“How about this? Go out there and play your ass off at left tackle, and you’ll make $100 million,” Craig said. “I hope he would respond maturely and play with a chip on his shoulder to prove he is worth a lot more money. Because thus far, he hasn’t earned the $18 million.”
