Moose: Nothing will change for Jets until Woody Johnson changes himself

The Jets got back to their losing ways on Sunday, managing just nine points against the Rams to drop to 4-11 on the season.

After the game, Aaron Rodgers declared that the final games of the season, meaningless on many levels, will show who in the locker room wants to be there moving forward, and who is ready to jump ship.

Meanwhile, the GM and head coaching vacancies need to be filled, and those hires will have to decide whether they want Rodgers back on the roster next season.

Despite all of those areas of the organization that need to be addressed, Marc Malusis says none of it will wind up mattering until Woody Johnson decides to change his ways and remove himself from football decisions and operations.

“Until that happens, nothing will change,” Moose said. “You have an owner who won’t get out of his own way. Winning in the NFL is very difficult…and Woody is running wild with some of the things he does, and he gets in the Jets’ way.”

Johnson has been a major talking point within the Jets after reports by The Athletic painted a picture of a meddling owner who allows his sons to take part in football manners and uses Madden ratings to weigh potential trades, and Moose says those kind of behaviors need to be drastically changed, or else losing will continue to follow this organization no matter who else is involved.

“When you look at the Jets, it’s a simple question: will Woody get out of the way?” Moose said. “You can look at this Jets job and say it’s appealing because it’s a rarity…these jobs will remain attractive even though the owner doesn’t get out of the way, but nothing will change with the Jets until the owner gets out of the way. That’s it.

“To be walking around thinking that you know football…that shows the dysfunction within the Jets.”
