Zach Wilson spent the Jets bye week in Utah with his girlfriend, but Shaun Morash says the quarterback would have been much better off hanging back in Florham Park to work on his craft.
“What is about to be the biggest stretch of his career, decided it was a good time to take his girlfriend to Utah to apple and pumpkin pick…he's a professional athlete, the family could fly to New York and New Jersey,” Morash said.
“I'm sorry, the Jets stink after byes. Zach Wilson's season last year derailed after a bye. I believe 52 guys could have gone and visited families. The quarterback, the leader, needs to be at that or around that facility all week last week. Zach Wilson has not done enough to get his ass on a plane with his girlfriend and go to Utah for a week.”
Teams typically encourage getting some time away from football for a few days during a bye week, but Morash says the Jets have too much on the line for a quarterback who has struggled for much of his career to be vacationing when a big matchup with the rival Giants is on deck.
“The last time I remember a quarterback about to face the Giants with a visit out of there are to pound town, let’s call it, was Tony Romo with Jessica Simpson in Cabo,” Morash said. “How did that work out?
“The focus needs to be in the film room, the weight room, the study room.”
