Braxton Berrios has potentially played his final game with the Jets.
The Jets wide receiver and explosive kick returner is dealing with a thigh bruise all week, and head coach Robert Saleh told reporters on Friday that it is “not looking good at all” for the pending free agent to suit up against the Bills in Sunday’s season finale. Hours later, the team officially placed him on injured reserve.
Berrios has been a revelation for New York of late, returning a 102-yard kick return for a touchdown against the Jaguars before catching a touchdown last weekend against Tampa Bay. In the last three weeks alone, he has ran for two scores, returned a kick for a touchdown, and caught another. He also leads the league in average yards per kick return at 30.4.
Both Berrios and Saleh have expressed a desire for the former sixth-round pick to be back with Gang Green next season. With Berrios’ year officially done, he will end his season with 431 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
