Report: Jets request permission to interview Bills assistant general manager Brian Gaine

Gaine has prior experience as general manager of the Texans for one season

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - While offensive coordinator Joe Brady has been one of the hot commodities so far as a head coaching candidate in the NFL, another personnel member of the Buffalo Bills is getting some interest from other teams around the league.

According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on Tuesday, the New York Jets have requested permission from the Bills to interview assistant general manager Brian Gaine for their vacancy at general manager.

Gaine is no stranger to being atop the football operations hierarchy for an organization in the NFL. After spending one season with the Bills in 2017 as the vice president of player personnel, Gaine was hired by the Houston Texans as general manager.

However, after just one season leading the Texans' front office in 2018, where Houston finished with a 11-5 record, Gaine was fired as general manager.

Despite that, Gaine quickly found his footing again back with the Bills, being re-hired as a senior personnel advisor in 2019. After a few more seasons within the organization, Gaine was promoted to assistant general manager shortly after the departure of Joe Schoen, who became the general manager of the New York Giants.

Gaine does have a past history in the front office with the Jets, serving as a scout between 1999 and 2004. It was his first job in the NFL as an executive after his playing career came to an end following the 1998 season.

The Jets moved on from Joe Douglas as general manager in East Rutherford during their Week 12 bye after a 3-8 start to the 2024 season. Douglas was hired by the Jets as their general manager prior to the 2019 season.
