Mike Locksley interviews for Jets' head coaching job

An interesting name from the DMV has popped up in NFL coaching searches: the Jets conducted an interview with Maryland head coach Mike Locksley on Friday.

Locksley, 55, has been the head coach of the Terps since 2019, going 33-41 including a 4-8 season this year. He also was a head coach at New Mexico, going 2-26 in parts of three seasons, went 1-5 as the interim head coach at Maryland in 2015, and has been an assistant at a half-dozen other schools as well as Navy Prep – but he has never coached at the NFL level in any capacity.

The DC native was a defensive back at Towson State after his HS career at Ballou, but he has mostly been an offensive assistant in those roles, and the Jets are coming off an era where their previous head coach, Robert Saleh, came from the defensive side of the ball.

Rex Ryan, Mike Vrabel, and several other big-name NFL coaches have also interviewed with Gang Green, as they are leaving seemingly no stone unturned in their search.
