Robert Saleh stood by the decision to keep Zach Wilson as the Jets starting quarterback when speaking with reporters on Tuesday, and called it “lazy” to focus the blame on Wilson for the team’s struggles on offense.
Gio doesn’t believe Saleh could be this blind in his support of the No. 2 overall pick, and is convinced that the likelier scenario is that Saleh is being directed from above to keep playing Wilson while Aaron Rodgers is hurt.
“Someone else is telling him to play Zach Wilson,” Gio said. “He’s either a complete fool, which he’s not, or someone is telling him to play Zach Wilson.”
Gio would rather see Tim Boyle or Trevor Siemian get the start, as Siemian was signed to the practice squad earlier in the season, but for now, it seems like that is not going to happen.
“He’s here for an injury,” Gio said of Siemian. “I didn’t believe they were gonna bench Zach, because we’ve done this now for I don’t know how long, but now you really know you’re not gonna see another quarterback if Siemian isn’t elevated.”
