Robert Saleh talks Haason Reddick, Jets expectations with Boomer & Gio
Robert Saleh joined Boomer and Gio live from Jets training camp on Tuesday morning, and was asked about the latest news surrounding Haason Reddick, who requested a trade before general manager Joe Douglas issued a statement saying that the pass rusher would not be traded.
Saleh deferred to his GM’s statement when asked about Reddick, who has been a holdout since the start of training camp as he seeks a new contract.
“I’m focused on these guys. I’m focused on the things we have control over,” Saleh said. “We love our D-line group. It’s really deep, especially our defensive ends…they’re all taking advantage of their opportunities.”
Saleh enters the season with arguably the most talent he’s had as Jets head coach, even without Reddick in a the fold. The pressure is on to win, and to shed criticisms centered around his performance as head coach so far, and his portrayal to the press and on last season’s Hard Knocks. Many criticized Saleh for being overly positive and sometimes even containing cheesy messaging when trying to motivate his team, and Saleh told Boomer and Gio that he is learning as he goes, and realizing that he could be better when talking to reporters about his team’s performance.
“Sometimes I adlib to shorten the time, but I feel like sometimes I’m a little too transparent,” Saleh said. “Call it good nature or whatever you want…but it’s get to the point, get on stage, get off the stage, and focus on the guys that are important, which are the guys that are playing football.
“Last year I learned that I’m always gonna be wrong until we win.”
