Robert Saleh: Zach Wilson needs to 'Read a book…get away from this game' for 'reset'

All signs point to Zach Wilson being inactive for the Jets’ season finale on Sunday, as Robert Saleh told reporters on Wednesday that Mike White would be a full participant in practice, with Joe Flacco serving as the backup.

Why not let Wilson play on Sunday in a game with no playoff implications, and use the game as an opportunity to get another look at what the former No. 2 overall pick can be? Saleh says right now, it’s more important for Wilson to get his mind right.

“It’s ‘Go read a book. Go do something. Get away from this game. Just rest,’” Saleh said. “I think the greatest strength and greatest gift you can give yourself as a human is to figure out what’s important to you. What do you value and how can you stick to those values day in and day out? That is the greatest gift you can give yourself is to discover yourself. And I think Zach needs to get away, read a book, and figure that out.”

So, Wilson’s season is done, but that still doesn’t mean the Jets are giving up on him. The reset is not seen as a step towards moving in another direction.
The Jets still believe they have their quarterback of the future.

“Communication is constant. Again, we’re not wavering,” Saleh said. “We believe in the young man. It's not a talent thing. We want to make sure we reconnect with Zach and regain his confidence, regain his confidence in himself and us, and us and him, just all of us. Just to make sure he’s back on track, getting his footwork down right, getting his mechanics right, get his mind right. It’s not a talent thing for Zach. I just don’t believe that.  When it’s the reset, we're going to work our tails off to help him. We’re committed to that…Through hell or high water we're going to figure out how to get him to where we know he can be.”
