Sal: Aaron Rodgers committing past 2024, endorsing current regime is 'worst thing' for Jets

BT sees big things ahead for the Jets over the next two years with Aaron Rodgers committed to the team beyond 2024, but Sal is on the complete opposite side of the spectrum.

“While I love Aaron Rodgers…it is the worst thing that can happen to the franchise,” Sal said. “What they should be doing is saying ‘Joe Douglas, you’re gone. Robert Saleh, you’re gone. Nathaniel Hackett, you’re gone. Aaron Rodgers, here’s what’s gonna happen. This is what you can accept and be the quarterback this year under these circumstances with this head coach and this draft pick, or we’ll move on, and you’ll be gone.’”

Instead, the Jets will likely keep things status quo with Rodgers publicly endorsing the current regime, and while Rodgers was initially seen as the Jets savior, Sal now sees his presence as an obstacle that is keeping the team from doing what is best for the organization’s future.

“They need a new leader of the organization, they need a new head coach, and they need to draft a quarterback,” Sal said. “Until they do that, they’re gonna be meddling next year at best, maybe competing for a playoff spot, lucky if they get in if everything goes right, and they can have that for two more years, relying on a 40-year-old quarterback.”
